Three of the Powell children, Berta Woodson, Ida Thomas and Ella Frances died in 1880 from the unknown epidemic. Cynthia caught the disease and died while nursing and was buried in the cemetery along with the children. When the inscribed grave markers were placed circa 1946 it was not known at that time that Cynthia's grave was also in the cemetery. Her grave remains unmarked.
