John was the Mayor of Leicester in 1572 and 1584.

He was the son of Thomas Herrick and grandson of Robert Eyricke, descendant of Eyryk, a Danish Chief known as "Eric the Forester." He married Mary, the daughter of John Bond of Wardende, Warwick. They were married in 1531 or 1537 and had at least six daughters and five sons:
