MRS. PREBLE PASSED AWAY AS SHE SLEPT.

-------------------------------------

Funeral Services Will Be Held Saturday Afternoon at 1:30 O'clock From Methodist Church.

-------------------------------------

Mrs. Jas. Preble passed quietly from sleep into that rest from which there is no earthly awakening, yesterday morning at 5 o'clock. For about 20 years she had been a sufferer from rheumatism and for a number of years was helpless, passing most of the time in bed, only as she was lifted to a chair for a brief rest, by the willing hands of her kind attendants, to ease the tired muscles.

The family is one of the best known in this vicinity and especially in the neighborhood one and one-half miles south of Niles. With her husband she came to the homestead in 1860 and there has been laid the scene of the joy and happiness, the fortunes and misfortunes which befall every life. Mrs. Preble was born in Elkhart, Ind., in 1841*. The husband passed away in June, 1913, and since that time she has depended upon her daughter for comfort and care, going with her to Eau Claire last autumn when she married and went there to make her new home.

The deceased, besides a circle of friends comprised of all who came within her sphere and were permitted to know her, leaves three children to revere her memory and profit by the example of patient, devoted motherhood: E. F. Preble, superintendent of shcools at Schoolcraft; W. F. Preble of Burke, South Dakota, and Mrs. Charlotte Bailey of Eau Claire, with whom she made her home. One brother, Frederick C. Johnson of Sidney, Neb., who came to Niles this afternoon, and a sister, Mrs. Ella F. Haslip of Neodesha, Ark., also remain. Supt. Preble came from Schoolcraft yesterday in response to a message. The mother had seemed about the same as usual, excepting for a strong tendency to sleep a greater portion of the time and Wednesday morning she sank into a deep slumber from which she did not awake.

Mrs. Preble will be brought to her church home, the Methodist Episcopal church of this city, tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, and Rev. R. A. Wright will conduct the funeral services. The body will be laid beside that of her husband, which rests in Silver Brook cemetery.

*The Marriage License shows the bride, Lucinda Johnson, with a birth date of 1842, instead of 1841. Iowa is listed as her birth place on her death certificate. The groom's name is transcribed incorrectly as J. F. Beble, instead of J. P. Preble. His birth date is given as 1840, instead of 1828; and the place of his birth is transcribed as 'Nales, Benion, Michigan', which should be 'Niles, Berrien, Michigan'. They were married on April 2, 1860 in Edwardsburg, Cass County, Michigan. This marriage license needs to be verified.
