Mr. Richard Johnson, age 65 and a resident of Okmulgee, passed away on Saturday morning, November 20, 2010. Better known as "Bo" to all who knew him, Mr. Johnson was a lifelong resident of the area. He attended school in Broken Arrow and Morris, before joining the United States Marine Corp. He served honorably during the Vietnam Conflict, where he earned numerous honors and medals. After his military service, he earned a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. He was married to Rose Johnson, and together, they had two children, Angel and John. Their marriage was later dissolved. "Bo" was an ordained minister and evangelist, and attended Bemo Indian Baptist church near Bixby. He retired from the Department of Corrections in the Probation and Parole Division. Mr. Johnson held various administrative positions throughout his employment with the Department of Corrections in McAlester and Boley. "Bo" worked in the law enforment community as well. He was formerly Chief of Security for Creek Nation Casinos, Morris Chief of Police, Okmulgee Police Department, and Undersheriff of Okmulgee County Sheriffs Office. He was an avid Pool Player, where he participated in various pool leagues. "Bo" was also a philanthropist, liked old cars and was an Elvis Presley fanatic. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Jeffrey Johnson, a brother, Cy Johnson, and his sisters, Patty Wahnee and Carolyn Neido. He leaves to lament his death; his son, John Johnson [Partner, Jason Whitsitt], Okmulgee, Oklahoma; his daughters, Angel Johnson-Warkentin [Keith], Okmulgee and JoAnna Petree [Billy], Okmulgee, Oklahoma, his former wife and mother of John and Angel, Rose Johnson, Okmulgee, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his brothers, Hugh Ed Johnson, Norman, Oklahoma and Keeper Johnson [Martha], Morris, Oklahoma; his sisters, Dee Sloan, Okmulgee, Oklahoma, Dorothy Ticeahkie, Betty "Base" Neal and Charlene Nevaquaya, all of Lawton, Oklahoma, and Darlene Robertson, Oakland, California; along with other relatives and friends who will cherish his memory. The final salute to Richard Madison "Bo" Johnson will be held on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at 3:00 P.M., graveside ceremony in the Morris Cemetery. Brother Chuck McHenry will officiate. Friends may visit "Bo" as he slumbers in peaceful repose at the funeral home in Okmulgee on Monday, from 2 PM until 7 PM and on Tuesday from 10 AM until 2 PM. The funeral cortege will leave the funeral home at 2:30 PM on Tuesday.
