HE Countess Ruth of Rosenborg
(Danish: HE Grevinde Ruth af Rosenborg)

Wife of HE Count Flemming of Rosenborg, formerly Prince of Denmark and Iceland, whom she married in 1949. Her husband gave up his right to the Danish succession and the style of Prince upon their marriage.

She was a much-loved member of the Danish royal family, who grew up near Copenhagen, the daughter of Kai Nielsen and Edith Fischer. Her father was the owner of the A/S Nielsen contracting firm, of which her husband later became director.

Although educated as a translator in French and as a Bachelor of Commerce, she concentrated on raising her family instead of having a career.

She was introduced to the British royal family by her father-in-law, and both the Count and Countess spent Christmases with the Norwegian royal family.

Ruth was especially fond of her husband's grandmother, Princess Ingeborg of Sweden and his aunt, Crown Princess Märtha of Norway.

After the Count's retirement from business, they lived a few years in Essex, England, and then settled in the south of France. But following his death, the Countess returned to live in Denmark.

She is buried next to her husband, and leaves behind four children and ten grandchildren to cherish her memory.
