Esther was born to Dr. Ward Worthington and Pearl Hugunin MacHenry and was married to Harold William (Hugh Reynolds) Cullen. She was a Pearl Harbor survivor, living in military housing that 7 Dec 1941 morning with her two children. Her husband was working in the Navy Yard and the young family were reunited, unharmed, three days later. Prior to and early in her marriage she worked ten years for a telephone company in Seattle and Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for twenty years.
Esther was a kind and gentle person, a loving mother and good friend. Her laugh made a certain joy fill a room and she never knew a stranger.

Former Bremerton resident and Pearl Harbor survivor Esther B. Cullen, 80, died Thursday at her home in Seattle.
She was born May 26, 1909, in Ashland, Ore.
She later moved to Seattle and worked for the telephone company for 10 years in the 1920s and 1930s.
On New Year's Day in 1938, she married Harold Cullen.
She was living in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii at the time of the Japanese attack on Dec. 7, 1941. Later Mrs. Cullen moved to Bremerton. She worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 20 years, retiring in 1971. She moved to Seattle in 1974.
She is survived by her son Douglas, of Kent; a daughter Nancy Trask of Milford, Conn.; two brothers, Ward MacHenry of Port Angeles and Paul MacHenry of Mukilteo, Snohomish County; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Her husband died in 1968.
A memorial service was to be held today at 1 pm at Bleitz Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
