According to the custodian at Old St. Patrick's, the vault contains the remains of collateral ancestors of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, whose maternal great-great grandparents were Ellen (nee Wilmouth) Fitzgerald (1797-1875) & Edmund Fitzgerald (1798-1883). Their son Thomas Fitzgerald (1835-1885) was the father of Mayor "Honey Fitz" of Boston, the President's famous grandfather. In 1999 Old St. Patrick's was the site chosen for JFK, Jr.'s memorial service, a decision which may reflect his ancestral connection to this historic church.
