An early settler in this still rural area, Mrs. Herriott, nee Mary Berry, was born c. 1731. The wife of Revolutionary War veteran Asher Herriott (c.1731-1796), she died at age 63, predeceasing her husband by two years. Her marker was cut from white sandstone, a material used much less frequently in New Jersey gravestones of the period than brown or red sandstone.
