Enid H. Ostertag, 101, St. Joseph, died Thursday, October 28, 2010, at her residence.
She was born September 23, 1909, in Corning, Kan., and was a former resident of Sabetha, Kan., moving to St. Joseph in 1959.
Enid married John Arthur Ostertag on August 12, 1933. He preceded her in death on September 19, 2010. They were married 77 years.
She was a transplanter for Shea's Green House.
Enid was also preceded in death by her parents, Elmer Roscoe and Anna Gertrude (Tomlinson) Harris; and her grandsons, Darren Ostertag, John Casey Ostertag; and granddaughter, Alicia Faye Ostertag.
She was a member of the Brookdale Presbyterian Church and a charter member of the Genealogy Society of Buchanan County and Atchison, Kan. She was a loving mother.
Enid was actively involved in genealogical research since 1972. She and her husband wrote over 100 publications and books on the histories of Andrew, Atchison, Buchanan, Gentry, Nodaway, Platte and Worth Counties in Missouri and Atchison, Brown, Doniphan and Nemeha Counties in Kansas.
Survivors: three sons, John B. (Deborah) Ostertag, Winchester, Va., Robert H. (Linda) Ostertag, Coulee City, Wash., and Kent A. (Terry) Ostertag, Gilbert City, Ariz.; two daughters, Lynn (Roy) Yazel, Independence, Mo., and Anne (Todd) Hall, Oregon, Mo.; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Memorial service: 11 a.m. Saturday, Brookdale Presbyterian Church, St. Joseph. Inurnment at a later date at Mount Vernon Cemetery, Atchison. Services under the direction of Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Online guest book and obituary at www.meierhoffer.com.
