Dorothy was born October 23, 1915 in Corning, KS the daughter of Jack and Gertrude (Tomlinson) Harris. Dorothy attended rural Harris Grade School and graduated valedictorian from Corning High School in 1933. Dorothy married Lloyd Cooley on April 27, 1934 in Alma, KS. Dorothy was a devoted housewife and homemaker. Dorothy had been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Atchison, KS; Railroad Ladies Auxiliary; and the PTA. Dorothy and Lloyd enjoyed researching family genealogy while traveling. Dorothy also enjoyed sewing and made clothes for her children when they were growing up.
Lloyd preceded Dorothy in death on February 11, 1999. Her parents; son, Lloyd ‘Norman' Cooley; grandson, Greg Mackey; brother, Robert Harris and a sister, Enid Ostertag, also preceded Dorothy in death.
Survivors include a son, Ralph (Barbara) Cooley, Oklahoma City, OK; three daughters: Louise (Franklin) Mackey, Independence, MO, Anne (Arden) Locke and Evelyn (Ken) Burkart, both of Lawrence, KS; eighteen grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson.
Memorial Services and burial will be at 3:00 PM, Friday, May 3, 2013 at Sunset Memory Gardens, Atchison, KS with Rev. Robert Ziegler officiating.
