The gravestone of the 28-year-old "Minister at Percipining in Hanover" who died on Christmas Day 1770 is inscribed: "This man of God had a short race but swift. He ran far in littel time. Few exceeded him in sweetness of temper...".
Young Rev. Tuttle was the son of Col. Joseph Tuttle, an elder of the Hanover church, and his 2nd wife, Abigail Nutman. He married a minister's daughter, Ann Green. Their only child, Benaijah, who predeceased him a few weeks earlier, is buried beside him.
The sandstone stele which marks the graves of father and son has a deeply arched profile, and features a soul effigy of the portrait type embellished with stars and hourglasses, underscoring the brevity of life.
