Not yet eight months old at the time of his death, baby Samuel Woodruff was buried with an infant sister, Abigail, who'd died eleven years earlier. Born to Elisabeth & Samuel Woodruff, the little siblings' inscriptions appear side by side on their dual gravestone with a single epitaph below. Now almost entirely illegible, it was recorded in an 1892 volume of transcriptions by William Ogden Wheeler and Edmund D. Halsey:

"Sleep lovely Babes Since God has Call'd thee hence
Let us Submit to his wise Providence"

The tympanum of their brown sandstone stele features tulips, instead of soul effigies typical of the colonial era, and like the ornately carved floral borders, represents the brevity of life.
