Daughter of Algra Ray and Albert W. Jones, Jr.

From the Des Moines Register:

When police arrived at his Des Moines home around 3 AM on February 16, 2000, Bill Clemons Sr., told officers he thought that his son, James Clemons, had killed his live-in girlfriend. The police had a search warrant authorizing them to enter James' home where Bill told officers his son choked Lida Renee Miranda Jones to death. Officers found her body in the converted garage with a cloth covering her face. Blood was found on her face and body.

James and Miranda lived together a detached garage off his parents' home at 6307 S.W. 14th Street. Bill told police that Miranda, 37, had stabbed James during an argument. Officers took the knife, along with several others, from the residence. They also seized partially-full beer cans, clothing, towels, couch cushions, marijuana seeds, and samples of James' blood and hair.

James, 33, was charged with first-degree murder but his family maintained that he acted in self-defense. The couple struggled in the past over custody of their 3-year-old child, as well as with domestic issues. Miranda had sought several no-contact orders against Clemons. James was convicted of willful injury and voluntary manslaughter and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. He was released on parole in 2009.
