The former Gertrude Ver Meer, Mrs. Vander Maten was born November 4, 1898, at Sioux Center. She was married to Andrew Vander Maten February 17, 1921, at Boyden. The couple lived on a farm near Middleburg, later moving to a farm near Newkirk. They retired to Hospers.
Survivors include the widower; five daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Alice) Van Dyke and Mrs. Audrey (Adeline) Dolphin, both of Hospers, Mrs. Melvin (JoAnn) Schouten of Sioux Center, Mrs. Donald (Greta) Foreman of Davenport, Mrs. Raymond (Edna) Kiel of Anaheim, Calif.; a son, Willis, of Ft. Dodge; 19 grandchildren and one great grandchild; two brothers, Edward Ver Meer of Sheldon and John E. Ver Meer of Boyden; a half-brother, William Ver Meer of Sheldon, and a sister, Mrs. Bert (Jennie) Bosma of Sheldon.
