John E. Vermeer, 78, of Boyden died Sunday at his residence. Services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Reformed Church in Boyden . the Rev. Sylvester W. Moths officiated. Burial was in Sheridan Township Cemetery in Boyden. Visitation was from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Van Etten-Oolman Funeral Home of Orange City.
Mr. Vermeer was born July 31,1905, at Hull. He married Martha Mulder Feb. 9, 1927, at Orange City. They farmed at Boyden until 1953 when they moved to town.
He was a member of the First Reformed Church.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Casey (Louella) Smit of Boyden and Mrs. Larry (Marjorie) Chassels of Cherry Hill, N.J.; one sister, Mrs. Jennie Bosma of Sheldon; a half brother, William Vermeer of Sheldon; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
