In 1956 Lyda Faulkner-Hughes, (a descendant of Joseph Hon Jr's daughter, Sarah Cynthia Hon-Morton) was a very ambitious member of the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution).
Lyda set out to "claim" Joseph Hon Sr as a Revolutionary War veteran in the DAR. She was unable to claim him as a veteran in the end because... he was not a veteran of the Revolutionary War.
However, during this time she decided that she was going to get military headstones for both Joseph Hon Sr & William Cave, who is Joseph Jr's father-in-law, and a true veteran of the Rev. War.
I am adding a copy of the original application that Lyda filled out for the headstone for Joseph Hon Sr. You will notice that she has marked through the name "Hon" & written the name "Horne" above it. The document is claiming that our Joseph Sr fought at "Fincastle" which was Lord Dunmore's War, a very brief conflict.
You will also see that Lyda names the Hon Cemetery in Powell County, Kentucky as the cemetery where the stone will be placed.
The true Joseph Horn that fought at Fincastle was from Ohio. He collected his military pension for 16 years, following the death of our Joseph Hon Sr. I have included a pic of his final pension record, along with a pic of his true headstone which is located in the Presbyterian Cemetery, Marshall, Highland County, Ohio.
Lyda had done extensive research on Joseph Hon Sr & Jr., and also William Cave. She was well aware that they all lived on Cane Creek where they owned a very large amount of land, for as far as the eye could see actually. I would even venture to say that she was fully aware that they were actually buried on their own land, in the Martin Cemetery, as it would have been common knowledge in her time.
On 01 July 1956 Lyda Faulkner-Hughes choreographed a huge ceremony at the Stanton Christian Church in Powell County, Kentucky, to a large turnout of people. They had a dedication, they sang songs, they all went by motorcade to the Hon Cemetery where there was a great show of "unveiling" these headstones.
So... since 01 July 1956 Joseph Hon Sr has had this headstone representing him in the wrong cemetery, with the incorrect information written on it for just shy of 60 years right now.
I do not know why Lyda chose to have these stones set in this particular Hon Cemetery. I believe it was because she didn't want the "motorcade" to have to cross Cane Creek to reach the true cemetery where they are buried. There are 3 Hon Cemeteries within 10 miles of each other. The one that she chose is the only one that can be reasonably reached by foot and enough room to provide parking along the road for the "motorcade" that would be involved on the day of the ceremony.

NOTE: I have added the photo of this Joseph Horne military headstone that sits in the Hon Cemetery to the actual Joseph Horn's memorial page here on Find A Grave. Find A Grave Memorial# 127928473

I have created new memorial pages for Joseph Hon Sr., wife Mary Hon, Joseph Hon Jr., wife Eleanor Cave-Hon, and William Cave in the Martin Cemetery on Cane Creek, in Powell County, Kentucky. Joseph Hon Sr Find A Grave Memorial# 158049350
