John Penn Ray, son of Rev. Jesse Solomon Ray and Rosannah "Rosey" McKinney Ray, Husband of Louisa Eliza Wilson Ray,

John was a Casualty of War in Tennessee, serving in the CSA, His wife Eliza gave a man a Cow to take a wagon to bring her husband's body back from Tennessee for burial, she went with him, riding a horse, they also brought back two neighbor's who were killed.

John Ray was the son of Rev. Jesse Solomon Ray, born 1800, Buncombe County, N. C. died, 1-9-1855, Yancey County, N. C., Married 1822, Buncombe County, N. C., Rosannah "Rosey" McKinney, born 1799, Buncombe County, N. C., died, February 1860, Yancey County, N. C.

John Ray and Louisa Eliza "Lisa" Wilson were the parents of 5 children.

Three sons, Joseph Ray, William B. Ray, and Edward Ray, are all buried at Brown-Ray Cemetery

Two daughters, Mary Caroline "Polly" Ray, 1-23-1846 - 10-30-1924, married Mardonus D. Anderson, they are both buried at Anderson Cemetery, Paint Fork, Madison County, North Carolina.
Malissie Ray, 3-1-1858 - 8-10-1939, married W. Elbert Metcalf, they are both buried at Metcalf Cemetery, Madison County, North Carolina.

John P. Ray served in the 29th NC Infantry Regiment.
