Maynard Fields, 83, of Yuma, was called home Thursday night, September 16, 2010, at the Brian Center, in Weber City, following an extended illness.

He was born and raised in Scott County, before moving to Charlottesville. In 1978, he moved back to this area.

Mr. Fields served in the United States Army. He was a retired farmer who loved to go fishing and enjoyed being in the mountains. Maynard was a little league baseball coach for over 13 years, where he touched many lives.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia; his grandchildren, Whitney Ramey and Jeremy Falin; his parents, Charlie and Sophia Clark Fields; along with several brothers.

Maynard Fields is survived by his daughters, Marline Sims and her husband, Randy, of Staunton, Tina Ramey and her husband, Kenneth "Bud", of Gate City; sons, Randall L. Fields and his wife, Ellen, of Front Royal, Danny R. Fields of Waynesboro, Samuel Wayne Fields of Faber; his grandchildren, Jonathan Keith Fields, Justin Ramey, David Sims, Michael Sims, Shawn Sims, Caleb Fields and Gina Sims; several great-grandchildren; his very special sister, Stella Peters of Weber City; an additional sister, Pearl Dean and her husband, W.H., of Nickelsville; along with several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours were held Sunday, September 19, 2010, at Scott County Funeral Home.

A military graveside service was conducted by the American Legion Hammond Post #3/#265 and the Virginia Army National Guard Monday, September 20, 2010, at Holston View Cemetery.

Family and friends served as pallbearers.

Family and friends attending the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home Monday, September 20, 2010.
