She attended Weaver College for 1 year until her father told her he did not have the money to send her and her brother Roy at the same time and so "Roy is going because a girl doesn't need as much education" or something to that effect.
For the rest of her life, she talked about she wished she had been able to go to school and stressed the importance of education to her granddaughters.
She met her husband Will Black (William Mont Black) through her brother "Lester Watts" who married Will's sister "Lela Black."
She did hard and back breaking work her entire life - cooking, cleaning, ironing for others to make some money, gardening, canning, keeping chickens and etc. - typical farm labor of the time. They had an indoor shower in the basement and an outhouse until about 1970.
