Emigrated from England to New York in 1849. A master stone mason, he worked at first in New York, then in Cleveland and Akron, before being hired to work on Ascension Hall and Bishop O'Dell's residence at Kenyon College in the fall of 1857. He remained in Knox County until about 1866, when he relocated to the Columbus area and worked on such buildings as Trinity Episcopal church, Columbus City Hall, several bank buildings (Huntington, Hayden and Deshler) and the Ohio State Penitentiary.
