Gunder Haakenson, son of Haaken and Mari Torgerson,was born in Sigdal, Norway, on Dec. 15, 1859, and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
In 1880 at the age of 21, he came to America and located in Manchester, where he has since resided with the exception of three years when he was manager of the elevator in Hartland.
On Oct. 31, 1886 he was united in marriage to Antoinette Hartz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.E.Hartz. To this union seven children were born. Cora (Carl) Aasen, George and Lionell, all deceased: Maren (Gilbert) Olson; Luella (Herman) Hanson; Volberg(John) Ladlie, Hilda (Oscar) Hallum.
For 43 years he conducted a general store at Manchester and retired six years ago.
He passed away Dec. 27, at the age of 84 years, 12 days, after an illness of several weeks.
Besides his wife and four daughters he leaves to mourn his loss one sister, Betsy Ingbritson.
