THOMAS DERGO

Thomas Dergo, 83, of East Moline, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis.

His visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, at Sullivan-Phillips Mortuary, East Moline, with services Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 11 a.m., also at the funeral home. The Rev. Scott Culley will officiate. Burial is in National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, with military rites conducted by the East Moline American Legion 227.

Tom was born July 7, 1925, in Hiteman, Iowa, to Pete and Mary Mikita Dergo.

He was a tool crib attendant at John Deere Harvester, East Moline. He was a member of Local UAW 865 and a World War II Navy veteran. He was on the USS Missouri and witnessed the Peace Treaty being signed. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing baseball and was a fan of the Chicago Cubs. Tom was a fixture in downtown East Moline. He especially loved children and talking to everyone he came in contact with. He had a beautiful singing voice, and was a good dancer.

He is survived by his son, Timothy (Bonnie) Dergo, McKinney, Texas; daughters, Lynette (Terry) Anderson, Verna Dergo, both of East Moline; sister, Julia Silver, Torrence, Calif.; grandchildren, Ian (Stacey) Anderson, Sammi Anderson and Timothy Dergo; loving niece, Cheryl Dergo Campbell, East Moline; and many more nieces and nephews, and a special furry friend, Cahulan (best buddy will miss him). He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary, and father Pete, sisters, Ann, Helen, Kate and Liz, brothers, Mike, John, George and Pete.

The family of Tom Dergo would like to thank all the nurses and doctors at Illini who cared for him and the Genesis Hospice for their special care.
