US Congressman. He was born one of ten children (he also had three brothers Isaac Taber was born in 1782, George Pierce Taber was born in 1787, Jonathan Akin Taber was born in 1797, and six sisters, Hannah Taber was born in 1783, Martha Taber was born in 1784, Phebe Taber was born in 1790, Sybilla Taber was born in 1791, Abigail Taber was born in 1793, and Ann Taber was born in 1799) in Dover, New York, to William Taber and Martha Akin Taber. He attended the local public common schools and later engaged in agricultural pursuits. On February 20, 1799, he married Phebe Titus and the couple would have two children together, Stephen Titus Taber was born in 1821, and Samuel Titus Taber was born in 1824. His wife Phebe passed away on August 13, 1824, in Chestnut Ridge, New York, at the age of 25, just two months after the birth of their son Samuel. He never remarried after his wife's passing. He then entered public service and was elected as a Member of the New York State Assembly serving in that position in 1826. He then decided to run for a seat in the United States Congress and was elected to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of United States Representative Thomas Jackson Oakley. A Jacksonian, he then served New York's 5th District in the United States House of Representatives from 1828 to 1829. After his term in the United States Congress expired on March 3, 1829, he was succeeded in office by United States Representative Abraham Bockee. After leaving public service he retired to private life. He passed away in Roslyn, New York, on March 21, 1862, at the age of 76, and was buried in the Westbury Friends Cemetery in Westbury, New York, next to his wife. His son Stephen Titus Taber became a United States Representative from New York and served in the United States Congress from 1865 to 1869.
