Anna R. Poore

Anna Ruth Poore, 86, of East Boothbay died Monday, March 8 at Maine Medical Center after a brief illness.

She was born in Elkins, West Virginia, daughter of a farmer and his wife, William and Ida Bullock.

Her family moved to Belgrade, Maine in the early 1920s. She graduated from Belgrade High School.

Mrs. Poore learned to be a hard worker at an early age. She worked as a nanny and worked at the State School for Girls in the 1930s.

On April 4, 1939, she married Edward Norris Poore, who was in the U.S. Coast Guard. They lived in Cape Elizabeth for a short time before settling in East Boothbay. They would have been married forty years on April 4, 1999.

Mrs. Poore loved her family very much, which was seen in her smile as she cooked for many family gatherings. She especially loved the Fourth of July. During the summer, she enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens. In the wintertime, she enjoyed crocheting and knitting blankets for her family.

Surviving are her husband, Edward N. Poore of East Boothbay; her sisters, Melva Dodge of Bath, Aliette Bullock of Portland and Mildred Judkins of Waterville; a son, Rodney Poore of Scarborough; two daughters, Mary Brown of Niantic, Conn. and Martha Reed of Boothbay; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service celebrating Anna's life was held Wednesday, March 10 at 2:30 p.m. at the Boothbay Baptist Church.
