Obituary

Services for Johnnie Farrell Trammell Kemp, 79, of Athens are scheduled for 10:30 am Saturday at Willow Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Bud Peters officiating. Burial will follow at Rome Cemetery under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home. Mrs. Kemp went to be with her Lord on March 8, 2006. She was born Feb. 4, 1927 in a tent in Wheeler County, Texas to the late William Oliver and Bessie Onita Eckles Farrell. She and several of her siblings were later placed in the Corsicana State Orphans Home when their mother became too ill to care for them. Johnnie developed a lasting relationship with her state home family and continued to return there for annual reunions. She met and married the love of her life, Robert L. "Babe" Trammell, shortly after graduating high school. After his untimely death at the age of 32, the Trammells continued to be a vital part of Johnnie and the three children's lives. She always placed high value on friends and family and instilled that value in her children. Johnnie was a hair stylist by profession all of her working life, which is where her personality blossomed. She became friend and confidante to all who knew her. Laughter and telling jokes were the highlight of her life, but she also loved gardening, teaching Sunday School, and interacting with her many friends and helping anyone in need. We celebrate her passing to her spiritual home by remembering her love for life and the greatness that she was by molding her children's lives like the one she led. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert Levi Trammell in 1957 and Kenneth Kemp in 1989; brother, James Farrell; and sisters, Billie Schupp, Norine Romjieu and Mildred Christian. Survivors include her son, Daryl Randolph Trammell of Athens; daughters and son-in-law, Barbara Lynn Black of Athens and Cynthia Dawn and Johnny Allen of Killen, Ala.; brother, Arthur Farrell; grandchildren, Jason Harrison and wife Kelly, Heather Sullins and husband Warren, Natalie Smith and husband Geoff, and Tamra Allen; great-grandchildren; Amber, Whitney, Sarah, Savannah, Wade, Taylor, Talon, Brianna and Hunter; numerous nephews and nieces; brother-in-law, Joe A. Trammell, and sister-in-law, Peggy Lewis. Pallbearers include Jason Harrison, Warren Sullins, Geoffrey Smith, Arthur L. Farrell, Loyd Schupp and Danny Trammell. Honorary pallbearers are a devoted nephew, Wayne Trammell and the Corsicana State Orphans Home Alumni. Special thanks to close friend Edna Pearl Carrington, her "state home sister", Doris Johnson and Nava Joe Douglas, whose friendship enlightened our mother's life; and Dr. Marcus G. Abadie, Dr. Michael C. Tobes, and Home Health Specialists for their care. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:30 to 7:30 pm Friday.
