Robert Levi "Babe" Trammell was born in Athens, Texas to Jessie Verna "Jake" Miller and Perry Frank "Purrie" Trammell.

He married Johnnie Elizabeth Farrell.

Babe and Johnnie had the following children:

Barbara Lynn Trammell
Daryl Randolph Trammell
Cynthia Dawn Trammell

His nickname was Babe because he was the last child born to Jake and Purrie Trammell. In his family there were 8 boys and 1 girl. Babe was the eighth boy and number 9 child.

He was a radarman in the Navy in World War II. He was sent to war on board the U.S.S. Steamer Bay and remained assigned to that vessel throughout his service. He was honorably discharged from the Navy at the close of the war.

Babe met and married Johnnie Elizabeth Farrell in 1946 and they moved to the Houston area to find work. They ended up in Deer Park, Texas where he found a job at Shell Oil Company as a laborer. Later he worked in the lab.

After 6 years of marriage they finally started a family and had three children. In early 1955 Babe started being ill. He went through many doctors, took all sorts of tests and finally got a diagnosis of lung cancer in the beginning of 1957. By that time the cancer was well advanced and he was given just six more months to live. He decided to move the family back to his boyhood home of his parents to await the end of his life.

He turned 32 years old in May and by September 1957 he was in so much pain they could not give him enough morphine safely to ease the pain. He ended his life by his own hand on September 2, 1957. After burial at Rome Cemetery in Athens, Texas, the family returned to Deer Park.
