My name is Azotus Edgar Crain and this is My Story

I was born on July 11, 1908 to loving parents Edgar Crain and Mary Anna {Grover} Crain on a farm in Homer Township, Buchanan County, IA. I grew to manhood on the farm, attended rural school and graduated in 1926 from Rowley High School. In 1926 I attended Cornell College in Mount Vernon, IA for a year where I studied music and later attended the American Institute of Business in Des Moines from which I received a business certificate. I returned to Rowley where I owned and operated a service station, a DX tank wagon service and drove a school bus for the Rowley Consolidated school district.

On July 3, 1937 I was united in marriage with Nina Elizabeth Gunzenhauser in the home of her mother in Rowley, Iowa. We lived in Rowley until 1953 when then moved to a farm south of Rowley.

I was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Rowley. There I was an ordained elder, trustee and served on many committees and in several capacities in the church over the years. In addition I was a past master of Holman Lodge 593 of Rowley, a past Field Assessor for the Buchanan County Assessor's Office, and a past director of the Buchanan County Rural Electric Cooperating. I enjoyed my hobbies of collecting & organizing coins and vintage hand tools and above all being with my family and friends.

I passed away on November 23, 1997 at the West Village Care Center in Independence, IA. I am survived by my wife Nina Elizabeth of more than 60 years, sons Charles Robert (wife Roberta) of Oxford, OH and Richard Azotus (wife JoAnn) of Rowley, IA, three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and two sisters Lucille Hand of Independence, IA & Fern Solberg of Sun City, AZ. I was preceded in death by my parents, one grandson Ryan Crain, two brothers Lyle & Walter and a sister Lera Robinson.
