Pure Bred St. Bernard Grand "Duke" that sired numerous puppies with Grand "Dutches" including main off-spring "Princess" & "Lady"

St. Bernards are large farm dogs bred as rescue dogs (often trained with small brandy barrels around their neck, which Duke had). According to legend, the brandy was used to warm the bodies of trapped people in avalanches or snow before help came. Duke won a number of Dog show awards in his day. He was known for his darker features, large size, and strength.

Overmyer Kennels were run outside Empire, Leelanau County, Michigan during the early 1970's

Duke was often prone to escapes during up-coming bad weather. On one of his forest roams he was shot by a man named "C. Jones" in Benzie Co. who claimed he thought the large dog was a bear. The wounded animal was found by U.S. Park Rangers. After a counciltation with owner Len Overmyer II, the wounded pet was put down by the Park Rangers, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore where he was buried within.
