Robert King emigrated to America from Ireland in 1770. He settled near this cemetery in 1772. Father of 23 children, 21 of whom lived to be grown. He was the founder of the King family in this section and fought in the Revolutionary War. He was the father-in-law of Rev. Moses Holland, the founder of the Baptist Church and Saluda Baptist Association. He was also the father of Rev. Robert King, an early Baptist minister in this section. Monument erected by his only surviving grandson in 1929, John Macky King.

Inscription

There are two fieldstone. One is marked R.K. b.1756 d.1826. The second fieldstone is marked R. I. D. b.1756 d.Dec 3, 1826. I believe these stones belong to Robert King's grave.

Headstone transcription: ROBERT KING Born in Ireland in 1756. Emigrated to America 1770. Settled near this spot in 1772. Father of 23 children, 21 of whom lived to be grown. He was the founder of the King family in this section. Fought in the Revolutionary War. Died Dec. 13, 1826. He was the Father-in-law to Rev. Moses Holland, the founder of the Baptist Church and Saluda Association. He was also the father of Rev. Robert King, an early Baptist minister in this section.
