He was the second of three children, born in December 1897 as Anne Oldenburger in a former tiny Dutch settlement about 22 miles east of Maxwell City, at or near the present location of Chico Springs, Colfax County, in the northwestern part of New Mexico, son of Haye (Henry) Oldenburger and Reintje (Rainsty, Rena) Postma, named for his maternal grandfather Anne Hayes Postma.

In the beginning of 1904 Onnie moved with his parents, brother Halbe and sister Janke (Jennie), born in 1894 and 1900 near Maxwell too, from New Mexico to the north, to Gallatin County, in the southwestern part of Montana.

Onnie H Oldenburger, farmer in Manhattan, Gallatin County, probably at his father's farm, was registrated on 12 September 1917 in Bozeman, the seat of Gallatin County on a World War I Selective Service System Draft Registration Card.
Onnie Oldenburger lived in 1920 in Gallatin County, Montana too.

Onnie married on 21 November 1924 in his residence place Manhattan, near the Dutch settlement Little Holland, later on called Amsterdam-Churchill, Gallatin County, Montana, at the age of 26 years to the seven years younger Tracy Leep, who was residing in Manhattan too.

In 1940 Onnie (41 y, ranch operator) and Tracy (34 y) Oldenburger lived with their children Harry (13 y), Andrew (11 y), Ruth (9 y) and Evelyne (3 y) at a rented home in Middle Creek, Gallatin County, Montana.

Onnie Oldenburger died in February 1949 in Bozeman, Gallatin, Montana at the age of 51 years. His wife Tracy remarried in 1972 to widower Harry TeSelle and died in 2000 in Bozeman too, at the age of 94 years.
