Rev. Martin Courson, age 88, of West Green, passed away Sunday, February 12, 2006, following an extended illness. He was born on May 17, 1917 to the late Dan Courson and Pennie Davis Courson.

Rev. Courson, a native of the Bickley community, was a retired Church of God minister. He had served South Georgia and the Southeast Georgia Coastal area for many years during his ministry.

Survivors include: 2 daughters, Jacquelyn and Touchton Tarrance of West Green, and Bonnie and Ray Jowers of Broxton; 2 sons, Earl and Brenda Courson of Adel, and Carroll Courson of West Green; 3 brothers, Earlie Courson of Douglas, Wilfred Courson of Hurst, Texas and Bobby Courson of the Philippines; 2 sisters, Betty Morse of Macon and Ida Mae Peterson of Douglas; 1 son-in-law, Charles Lee of Jacksonville, Fla; and 9 grandchildren several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Malonee Wood Courson; a daughter, Geneve Lee, one grandson, David Tarrance; 3 brothers, Horace Courson, Clera Courson and Warnie Courson; 1 sister, Vera Vickers.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday Feb. 14, at 7 pm at the West Green Church of God with the interment on Feb. 15 in the Burkett Church Cemetery.
