Nineteen year old Ransom Wolcott of Irvine Twp, Barry County, had enlisted in Co. I. of the 26th Michigan at Bowne, in 1862. His brother, Sgt. Joel Wolcott, died of chest wounds from the May 12th Battle of Spotsylvania on May 24, 1864, and was later given the rank of Bvt. Lieutenant on June 9th. Ransom Wolcott survived the war and mustered out with the regiment at Alexandria on June 4, 1865. He later lived in Carleton, Michigan, was listed from Freeport in the 1908 regimental reunion, and died in 1919 around the age of 76. He is buried by his wife, Annie, in the Freeport Cemetery in Barry County.
