Professional Football Player. For fourteen seasons (1963 to 1976), he played at the center, left-defensive tackle and linebacker positions in the National Football League with the Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers. He was a member and key player on the Super Bowl IX (1975) and Super Bowl X (1976) Champion Steelers' teams, where he anchored the offensive line. Born James Raymond Mansfield, he attended Kennewick High School in Washington and played collegiate football at the University of Washington, where he was a member of the Huskies' team that won the Rose Bowl title in 1961. He was chosen by Philadelphia during the 2nd round of the 1963 NFL Draft and appeared in 196 consecutive career games (182 while with the Steelers), achieving All-Pro status two-times (1972 and 1975). Following his football career, he worked as an insurance broker. Mansfield suffered a fatal heart attack while hiking at Grand Canyon National Park. He was inducted into the University of Washington Athletic Hall of Fame in 1995 and posthumously enshrined in the Washington State Sports Hall of Fame in 1997.
