3rd son of John and Elizabeth Hays Lyle. Lived with his parents during their lives, inherited from his father the western one-half of the homestead farm. He never married and died on May 29, 1863 at the home of his brother Joseph.
His death occurred at the same hour on the same day as that of his bachelor cousin, David Lyle. these cousins were close friends. A common funeral service was held for them in the Mt.Prospect Presbyterian Church and their bodies lie just a few feet apart in the old graveyard near Mt. Prospect Church.
