Cornelia Dukes was born on a farm near Crestline, Ohio, on the 9th day of July, 1822, and grew to womanhood on the old homestead in Richland county, Ohio. She united in marriage to Frisby P. Dukes in the old Ohio home on the 14th day of February, 1850, and very soon thereafter moved to the state of Illinois where they lived for a few years, and in 1856 she and her husband moved upon the farm near Vinton in Benton county, Iowa, where they lived and raised their family. Six children were born to them; two of whom died in infancy and four of whom grew to manhood and womanhood-namely Mary O. who became the wife of D.E. Voris and who went out of this home to the Higher Life just eight years ago the day that :Mother: Dukes went to her rest; Charles K. who also preceded the mother to the better land about seven years ago; and Edwin and Ida, both of whom remain to mourn her loss. Early morning of November 24th, without suffering, she quietly passed from this life. Services were conducted by Rev. T.M. Evans, pastor of the M.E. Church at 11 a.m., November 25, 1905, at the home of Hon. D.E. Voris. Interment in Vinton Saturday afternoon.
