John, Barbara and two of their children, Barbara and Hugh, joined the Sixty-Third Company and emigrated to the United States leaving Liverpool, England on the ship Jersey, February 5, 1853. There were 314 L.D.S. immigrants under the direction of Church Leader, George Halliday. Six marriages were solemnized on board the Jersey. They arrived in New Orleans, LA. on March 22, 1853.

Captain Joseph W. Young and Company arrived in the Salt Lake Valley on Monday, October 10th at 5:00 p.m. where they camped at Union Square. The next morning at 6:00 a.m., the Company was aroused by a trumpet sound. At 9:00 a.m. a meeting was called where Joseph W. Young and President Brigham Young spoke.

"In this City, Sept. 18th, after three days illness from lung fever, JOHN MORRIS. Born Jan. 8, [1899], at Lianfair, Lalhaven, Denbighshire North Wales; was baptised in the fall of 1849, and emigrated in the year 1853."
