Virginia Smith Rose died recently in Mars Hill, North Carolina where she had been a resident for two and a half years. She was previously a resident of Biloxi for 55 years.
She was born in Harlan, Kentucky November 17, 1917 and was the daughter of Earl Thornton Smith and Mary Lay Smith. She attended Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky.
Mrs. Rose taught elementary school in the Biloxi area for 15 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Biloxi, and worked as a volunteer at Biloxi Regional Medical Center for over 30 years. She loved gardening, writing, and reading and had a contagious sense of humor.
Her husband, Stoke F. Rose, preceded her in death. She is survived by her sister, Doris McFadden, of Franklin, Tennessee, her daughters, Rebecca Gifford, of Asheville, North Carolina, and Jeannie Prendergast, of Emory Texas, and two grandchildren, Jena Weeter and John Prendergast, of Dallas, Texas.
Interment will be in Southern Memorial Park. The Pass Road Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes in Biloxi is in charge of arrangements. View & sign register book at www.bradfordokeefe.com.
