Benton Lovelady, 89 mechanic, carpenter, World War II Veteran and survivor of the December 7th, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor passed away on Saturday November 28th, 2009 at the Talihina Veterans Center in Talihina, Oklahoma.
Born in Okemah Oklahoma on November 13, 1920 to the late Henry Clay and Rettie Olive Bratton Lovelady. Benton graduated in 1939 from the Okemah High School and on April 13th 1940 joined the U.S. Navy. During his tour of duty he was awarded the WWII Victory Ribbon for his participation in the attack on Pearl Harbor. He was Honorably discharged in July of 1946. He was an active member of the VFW and American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors are two sisters, Lura Rouzer of Wichita Falls Texas, and Maxine Poth of Checktawaga New York. Two nephews, William Charles Rouzer of Port Aransas, Texas and John Henry Rouzer of Grapevine Texas Several old timer Veteran friends and members of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, the VFW , the American Legion and other friends and relatives.
Military grave side funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 2, 2009 in the Oakwood Cemetery of Wewoka Oklahoma. Arrangements are under the direction of the Schumacher Funeral Home of Okemah.
Parents: Henry Clay and Rettie Olive Bratton Lovelady.
