Sarah was born in the upper Middletown Valley near Wolfsville in Frederick County, Maryland in October 1818 a daughter of Jacob and Susanna Flexon Rice of the valley and she married Samuel Green.
Samuel and Sarah lived with Sarah's parents. Samuel probably day labored for other farms and worked around the small 9-1/2 acre "home farm" that someday day would be come theirs, "Shady Grove".
Sarah was the last of her immediate family, her sister Catherine Wastler and husband Joseph and father Jacob Rice had died from Typhoid fever.
She was predeceased by her mother, and her husband Samuel Green in 1895.
Sarah was the mother of these children, Mahlon Benjamin Green, Lewis Perry Green, Samuel Edward Green, John Wesley Green and Sarah A.P. Kuhn, and one daughter that died in infancy, Margaret Green.
