JERRY SELLERS, 98,
GA's OLDEST MASON
Jeremiah, familiarly known as (Uncle Jerry) Sellers, aged 98, one of the oldest, and highly respected resident of Habersham County, died Wednesday morning at the home of his son, Paul Grant Sellers, Rte 1, Mt. Airy, following a lingering illness.
Mr. Sellers was born in Habersham County, April 13, 1861, and had resided in the Center Hill section all of his life.
He was a son of the late Ephriam and Sarah Prince Sellers, pioneer Habersham County pioneers.
On May 28, 1892, he married Miss Della Grant, who preceded him to the grave April 20, 1903.
Mr. Sellers was the oldest member of Hazel Creek Baptist Church, with which he united 80 years ago.
He affiliated with the Masonic Order 73 years ago, and bore the distinction of being the oldest Mason in Georgia, being a charter member of the Mount Airy Masonic Lodge 141, and was a farmer and carpenter by occupation.
Mr. Sellers was an ardent sportsman in his more active days, and was widely known by the Fox Hunters' Associations throughout the country.
Survivors include four sons, George Sellers, Albert Sellers and Paul Grant Sellers, all of Mt. Airy; N. A. Sellers, of Memphis, Tenn., 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday (tomorrow), from the Community Baptist Church, with the Rev. Benjamin Tomlin, the Rev. Wilton Duckett, the Rev. J. Billy Graham and the Rev. Clyde McClain officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Members of the Mount Airy Masonic Lodge, 141, will serve as pallbearers and also have charge of the graveside rites.
The body, now at McGahee Funeral Home, will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. Friday, half an hour before the services.
