Leon, of St. Margaret's and formerly of Eastport, died at the age of 93 from respiratory failure at the Spa Creek Center in Annapolis. Mr. Wolfe was born in Galesville, MD to Russian Immigrants on September 12, 1916 - he was one of eight children. He was educated in the Anne Arundel County Public School System. The family moved to Eastport in 1919, when Leon was two. He owned and operated Leon's Barber Shop in Eastport for over 68 years (on Fourth Street), and was known as "Mayor of Eastport". A park at the end of the street was even named for him by the city of Annapolis in 1984, even though he has never run for public office. Leon moved to St. Margarets, just north of Annapolis, in 1976.
A Navy veteran, he served aboard the USS Allegan (AK 225) and saw action in the Pacific Theatre. He earned the Pacific Theatre Ribbon (1 star), American Theatre Victory medal and Philippine Liberation medal.
He was a member of the Jewish War Veterans, VFW, BPOE #622, Eastport Democratic Club, and was awarded the Glittering Gem Award in 2002.
He loved his business patrons, Buick automobiles, dancing and "Good Old Maryland Seafood."
Leon was preceded in death by his wife since 1939, Ruth Agnes Wolfe (1/1/1919 - 11/6/2007); three brothers, Samuel, Irving ('Izzy', also a barber) and Henry; and four sisters, Rose, Ida, Ethel and Dorothy.
Survivors include his son, Ronald ('Ronnie') Wolfe and his wife Margaret (Margy) of St. Margaret's, Annapolis; two grandchildren, Wendy of Denver, Colorado, and Tim of Kent Island, MD; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Monday, November 16 at the Hardesty Funeral Home in Annapolis. Interment was in Keneseth Israel Cemetery, Annapolis.
