Josiah was born 15 March 1700/1, the son of William Hook and Mary Follansby of Salisbury, Mass. He was married in Salisbury on 12 Jan 1726/7 to Anne FRENCH, the daughter of Edward French and Mary Winsley. The wording on Anne's grave marker "former wife to Mr. Josiah Hook" suggests that Josiah married again following her death, but no record for this second wife has yet been found. Josiah had nine children with wife Anne, whose births were recorded in Salisbury:
