ASHEVILLE - Memorial services for Alda C. Shroat, of 38 Oak Park Road, will be held Wednesday at the Patton Avenue Chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with Rev. Gail Coulter officiating.

Mrs. Shroat died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, at Margaret Pardee Hospital in Hendersonville, N.C. Born in Mars Hill, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Clingman Carter and Ella Shelton Carter Carpenter. She received her business degree from Buncombe County Community College at the Buncombe County Courthouse. She was a member of the Skyland Twirlers and the Women's Democratic Club and was a former precinct judge. An avid monogrammer, she was a member of the Monogramming Guild and her grandchildren, family and friends treasured her skill and monogrammed items that she left as part of her legacy. She was a member of First Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, James J. Shroat; daughters and son-in-law, Patty S. and Pete Webb of Columbia and Donna S. and Eddie Lane of Lexington, N.C.; grandchildren, Parker Shroat Webb, Carter Bentley Webb and his wife, Leigh, and Wendi Kay Webb, all of Columbia, Penny Lane Henry and her husband, Keith, of Maryville, Tenn., Charla Patricia Lane of Wilmington, N.C. and James Charles Lane of Lexington; great-granddaughter, Sarah Lane Henry of Maryville, Tenn.; brother, Clyde Carter of Shelby, N.C.
