Blanche Henderson married Richard Fox on 10 September 1938 in Chattanooga, TN. They were longtime residents of Chattanooga where they raised 2 children:

Blanche Henderson Fox, 96, former longtime resident of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, at Arbor Terrace, an assisted living facility in Asheville, N.C.

After attending Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, Tenn., Mrs. Fox began her career in Knoxville. In 1934, she moved to Chattanooga to work for the First National Bank Receivership. She met her future husband, Richard Fox, in 1934, and they were married in 1938. While raising a family, she was an active member of a garden club, a book club and did volunteer work.

She served as an officer on the board of directors of the Florence Crittenton Home and later worked for several years as a member of the staff. After retiring, Mrs. Fox did volunteer work at the Hunter Art Gallery.

In 1979, she joined the Nancy Ward Chapter of the DAR, where in 1980, she was elected treasurer. Mrs. Fox was a member of St. Mary's Chapter at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. An avid reader and gardener, she also enjoyed visits with her children and traveling in North America and Europe. She lived with a sense of style and grace.

Mrs. Fox was preceded in death by her husband, G. Richard Fox, in 1974. She was the daughter of Otha Ray Henderson and Lida Denton Henderson of Cohutta, Ga.; and had two brothers, Coy Henderson, of Cohutta, and Denton Henderson, of Chattanooga.

Mrs. Fox is survived by her son, George R. Fox and wife, Juanita, of Fletcher, N.C.; and her daughter, Charlotte F. Fox, and friend, Jean Roberts, of Atlanta and Arden, N.C.; a grandson, Ansley R. Fox, and wife, Krista; and two great-granddaughters, Megan and Hannah Fox, of Fletcher, N.C.; stepgranddaughter, Jerrie Winkler and husband, Mark, of Waxhaw, N.C.; two step-great-grandchildren, Brandee and Joseph Winkler.

The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Interment in Forest Hills Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 305 W. Seventh St., Chattanooga, TN 37402.
