Dennis Latina of Wilmington, passed away suddenly at home on Friday, October 23, 2009, one day after celebrating his 60th birthday with family and friends. Dennis was born in Wilmington on October 22, 1949. He attended St. Peter's Elementary School and graduated from De La Warr High School in New Castle. Dennis also attended the University of Delaware. He was a well known figure on the docks from Tioga Terminal in Philadelphia to the Port of Wilmington in a long and successful career in the shipping industry. Dennis was Vice President of Delaware River Stevedores, Inc of Philadelphia. He was recognized as a strategic thinker in world trade with an expertise in terminal management with perishable and project cargoes. Dennis was an officer in the Port of Wilmington Maritime Society. He had formed many friendships both professional and personal through his work. Those friendships included crane operators and longshoremen as well as shippers and international businessmen from across the world. Dennis was a parishioner at St. Ann's Parish. He was a longtime runner and cyclist. The greatest joys in Dennis' life, however were his relationship with his loving wife, Natasha and his four sons. His happiest moments were time spent at his children's soccer games, beach vacations, backyard sports and watching Eagles and Phillies games with his family.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 12 years, Natasha Alekseyeva Latina, his sons Pasha 22, Sasha 8, Andre 5, and Nikolai 2, all at home. He is also survived by his brothers, Chip Latina of Hockessin and Robert Latina of Florida, his aunts Nora, Betty and Marie; his Uncle Paul and Aunt Angeline and Aunt Jennie; nieces Adrienne and Emily and numerous cousins, other relatives and friends. He is predeceased by his parents, Catherine and Alfonzo Latina, and his sister Marie Latina Aceto and her husband Joseph Aceto. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, October 29, at 10 am at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 2013 Gilpin Ave Wilmington, DE. Calling hours are Wednesday evening at CORLETO-LATINA FUNERAL HOME, 808 North Union St. Wilmington, DE from 5-9 pm. Entombment will follow Mass in Cathedral Cememtery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Latina Children's Education Fund in care of WSFS, Branmar Plaza branch.
