2nd Wife of Jonathan, 82y 19d , b. 23 Jun 1788 ( or b. 1790 according to the 1850 and 1860 censuses).

Elizabeth………Taylor, 2nd Wife of Jonathan Taylor. Unknown parents.

A biography of Dr. (Harry Black) Reamer found in " A Century and A Half of Pittsburgh and Her People, Genealogical Memoirs of the Leading Families of Pittsburgh and Vicinity, Compiled under the Editorial Supervision of John W. Jordan, LL.D. of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, Volume III, The Lewis Publishing Company, 1908, p. 215 states: "Dr. (Harry Black) Reamer married, October 17, 1906, Carolyn Pricilla, daughter of Newton Taylor, granddaughter of Edward Taylor and great-granddaughter of Jonathan Taylor, who was among the early settlers of Crawford County, Pennsylvania, where he owned a farm of two hundred acres about nine miles southwest of Meadville…….Jonathan Taylor was twice married, the issue to his first marriage being as follows: Sarah; Rebecca; Polly (Mary) and Edward.....After the death of the mother of these children, he married again, becoming by this union the father of eight children. He died about 1843 (sic) 1845, .....Edward Taylor, son of Jonathan Taylor, was born in 1801"

About 1796, Jonathan Taylor married his first wife, Abigail Williams, daughter of Asher and Mary Beck Williams, while living in Elizabeth Township, Allegheny Co., PA . Abigail was about 19 years old and Jonathan was 29 years old. They had four children: Sarah "Sally" Taylor Peterson Watters/Waters (1797); Edward Taylor (1801); Rebecca Taylor Smock Abbott McCracken (1803); Mary "Polly" Taylor (Abt. 1806). Abigail Williams Taylor died about 1810.

About 1810/11, Jonathan Taylor married his second wife, Elizabeth (surname unknown). She was age 20 or 22 and Jonathan was age 43. The date of his second marriage was deduced from the birth of their first child, John F. Taylor born 13 Aug 1812, and both probably occurred in Elizabeth Township, Allegheny County, PA. Elizabeth was born 23 Jun 1788 in New Jersey; Calculated from Headstone--Died 12 Jul 1870, 82 years, 19 days but she was born in 1790 according to the 1850 and 1860 Censuses. If Elizabeth was born in 1790, she was seven years old when Jonathan's first child, Sarah Taylor Peterson Watters, was born in 1797 or she was nine years old if born in 1788.

Their Children: John F. (1812-1846); Nancy Ann (1814-1901); Abigail (1816-Aft 1845); Lamisa (1818-Aft.1845); Peter H. (1819-1904); Jesse D. (Abt. 1822-Aft.1874); Elizabeth (1828-1876). There may have been a child between Jesse and Elizabeth.

1845 Jonathan Taylor died. (see details of his will at end of bio)

1850 United States Federal Census, Greenwood Township, Crawford Co., PA, Enumerated October 1850 (Jonathan died in 1845); Elizabeth Taylor, head of household, Age: 60, Birth Year: abt 1790 Birthplace: New Jersey, Family Number:, 74: Sons, Peter and Jesse & his wife Clarissa and Elizabeth's daughter, Elizabeth & husband, George Washington Loper lived with her

1860 United States Federal Census, Greenwood Township, Crawford County, Elizabeth Taylor, widow, age 70, born in New Jersey, head of household. No other household members listed.

1870 United States Federal Census, Greenwood Township, Crawford Co., PA, Enumerated August 11: William Williams, age 26, male, white, farmer, born PA, property value $300, personal property value $400, born PA: Mary, age 22, female, white, keeping house, born PA: Carrie, age 4, female, white, born PA; Elizabeth, age 2, female, white, born PA; Albert, age 5/12, male, white, born PA; Almira, age 23, female, white, born PA, domestic servant (Almira was the sister of William)

Taylor, Elizabeth, age 82, female, white, born PA. (she was 80 and born in New Jersey) This 1870 Census was enumerated August 11, 1870, but her gravestone gives July 12, 1870, as her date of death. She may have died August 12, the day after the Census was taken. (Note: William Williams was her grandson and son of her daughter, Nancy Ann Taylor & Samuel Williams who was a child of "The Other Williams Families")

The "Other" Williams Families of Fallowfield/Fairfield (now Greenwood) Township., Crawford County, Pennsylvania" by Gayle Turner Davidson, Vol. X., No. 1, Spring/Summer 1987, pp. 13, 14. "William Williams "Captain Billy" son of Robert & Seabra Williams, born: about 1780, died: 1834, Buried Williams Cemetery. off Rt. 19, wife Sarah Seeley, 1775-1851; Children....Samuel Williams, 1808-1856, married Nancy Ann Taylor".... In the same edition, Gayle Turner Davidson provided extensive information on the "Descendants of Asher Williams of Fallowfield/Fairfield (now Greenwood) Township", Crawford County Genealogy, Vol.X, No. 1, Spring/Summer 1987, pp. 3-12., who also lived in the same area and had a son named William Williams. William Williams and Asher Williams Sr. have different parents and appear to be unrelated.

Elizabeth's daughter, Nancy Ann Taylor married Samuel Williams, a descendant of "the Other Williams' Families" and she lived with their son, William Williams, her grandson when she died. This may explain how Elizabeth may have been mistakenly labeled as a Williams and a daughter of Asher and Mary Beck Williams. She was named as Jonathan Taylor's wife in his will and her headstone states, "wife of Jonathan" and she was his second wife.

In both the 1850 and 1860 Census, Elizabeth, a widow, was head of the household and probably the person interviewed for information. In both, she said she was born in 1790 in New Jersey. Therefore, Elizabeth was age 7 when the first child of Jonathan Taylor, Sarah "Sally" Taylor Peterson Watters was born. Even using the 1888 date of birth on her headstone, she would have been age 9.

"Additions to the Asher Williams Family of Greenwood Township" by Eugene F. Throop, Crawford County Genealogy Magazine, Vol. X, No. 2, Fall/Winter 1987: "On pp. 3-14 of the preceding number (Vol. X, No 1, Spr/Sum 1987), Gayle Turner Davidson of......., presented her "The Descendants of Asher Williams of Fallowfield (now Greenwood) Township, Crawford Co., Pennsylvania," and "The 'Other' Williams Families." Mr. Throop has prepared this addition regarding the daughter of Asher Williams, Sr., who married Jonathan Taylor.)

p. 109--"Buried in the Anderson Cemetery in Greenwood Township are Jonathan Taylor, who died Mar. 29, 1845, age 77 yrs., 11 months & 12 days, and his second wife, Elizabeth, who died July 12, 1870, aged 82 yrs., and 19 days. Jonathan "Tailor" of Greenwood Township, Crawford Co., made his will on May 29, 1840, and it was probated on Apr. 2, 1845. The executors were his widow, Elisabeth, and son, Peter H., and his will named his children: Sally, Edward, Rebecca, Polly, John F., Nancy, Abigail, Lamisa, Elizabeth, Peter H. and Jesse D. It appears from the deeds cited in Mrs. Davidson's articles that at least the first four of Jonathan's children were by his first wife, who was Asher Williams' daughter......"

(Note: It was and is common practice for children to be listed in a will in descending order of birth, eldest to youngest.)

Only Sarah, Edward, Rebecca and Mary "Polly" sold property inherited from their grandfather, Asher Williams Sr., to their Uncle William Williams, son of Asher and Mary Beck Williams. They inherited their share from their mother, Abigail Williams Taylor. None of the children of Jonathan and 2nd wife, Elizabeth inherited property from Asher Williams Sr..
