Dorothy "Dot" Borders, 82, of Spruce Pine passed away Tuesday October 6, 2009 in the Brian Center. Born in Cleveland County, NC she was a daughter of the late Soloman and Martha Moorehead Smith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Hugh Borders, a daughter Lynn Borders, two sisters, Helen Smith and Aonnie Smith and four brothers; Johnnie, Elbert, Gene and Ivy Smith.
Survivors include a son, Ken Borders and wife Pam of Spruce Pine, two daughters; Fonda Harris and husband Tony of Burnsville and Dianne Borders of Greensboro, NC and a sister; Janie K. Crowson of Atlanta, GA. She is also survived by five grandsons; Jacob Borders of Greensboro, NC, Michael Harris of Burnsville, Kirk Jones and wife Aletta of Johnson City, TN, James Cannon and wife Becky,, Matthew Layer and wife Emily and Marc Layer all of Albany, GA, two granddaughters; Lee Ann Chastain and husband Rusty of Cleveland, TN and Jelinda Greene and husband Andrew of Spruce Pine, and great-grandchildren; Kayla, Amber, Ashley, Peyton, Ayden, Shelby, Cody and Cole.
Funeral services for Mrs. Borders will be conducted at 1:00 pm Saturday October 10, 2009 in the Grindstaff Memorial Chapel of Webb Funeral Home with the Revs. Larry Greene and Jim Huskins officiating. Interment will follow in the Berry Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until the service hour at the funeral home.
