D. C. was born at Shaw's Crossroads in Sumter County, S.C. and was one of 17 children, being one of the second set of 7 by his father's second marriage. D. C. married 26 Nov. 1860 & left for the war, serving in Col. T.V. Walsh's Sumter, S.C. CSA unit, Co. A of Holcombe's Legion until the fall of 1863. He then transferred to the Home Guard until the end of the war. He moved to Florida in 1869 after the July birth of son, T. M. Shaw. He was originally buried in Eatonville Cemetery (memorial #25344072) which closed; & he was moved to Edgewood-Greenwood Cem. in Apopka, Orange County, Fla. Contributed by Ervin B. Shaw, M. D.

D.C.Shaw was a carpenter & undertaker in Apopka, Florida. In the 1880 census, a household member was William Mcfaddin born about 1872 and listed as "stepson". An 1885 census lists him in the family as a son and with the surname of "Shaw".
