This is a letter written by Maude:
I was born in Jefferson County, Alabama,
in a little town called Crocker Junction. My parents names were:
Father: Hicky Pope Blackwell
Mother: Eula Francis Annie (Nail) Blackwell.
I started to school at the age of five in a town called
Mulga, Alabama. Alabama is originally my home.
From Mulga Alabama we moved
to Shelby County, Al. to a town called Boothton, Al.
I was seven years of age at that time.
I went to school there until I was ten years of age.
We moved in a Box-Car,
went along with all our things, cattle, poultry,
and all in the box cars.
We had cooked alot of cakes,
pies, boiled ham etc to eat on the trip.
We went to Coal Valley Alabama;
which was a large mining-camp.
I started to school there, along with my
two brothers and one sister.
I finished Junior High-School
at a town called Oakonasa Alabama
about five miles from where we lived.
I finished High-School (Senior High) there
in the year of 1926 and
received an accredited diploma.
I worked some; and my mother
became seriously ill and requested
me to stay with her; which I did
and took care of her until she died;
the year of 1931, in April at the age of 49.
I stayed on awhile with my father, and younger brother.
I married Edward Jackson Nelson,
the 25th day of November 1932.
Seperated from him in 1951.
Then I stayed with my three sons
after two of them came home from service.
I stayed with my two oldest son's
awhile after they were married.
One lived in Mobile, Alabama the
other in Monroe Louisiana.
Edward Nelson and I
were the father & mother of four children;
The oldest: Edward Laveine Nelson
The Second: Harold Frank Nelson
The third Carolyn Sue Nelson
The Fourth: Billy Ray Nelson.
On September the 25th 1959 I married George D. Antley.
