FRANK SVOBODA PASSES AWAY LAST WEDNESDAY

Funeral services held Sunday in the home of his son, Joe Svoboda

Our community was saddened yet not entirely surprised on hearing the news of the passing to his eternal reward of Frank Svoboda, which occurred in the sanitarium in Savannah, Missouri where he had gone to be relieved of a troubled condition.

Frank Svoboda son of Mr. and Mrs. James Svoboda was born on August 19, 1850 in Ccrncum, Kostelci, Czecho-Slovakia, Europe, and died in Savannah, Mo., Wednesday, October 11, 1939 at the age of 89 years, 1 month and 22 days.

Mr. Svoboda attended the schools in his youth and at the same time learning the trade of his father which was farming.

Mr. Svoboda was married to Miss Katherine Hejtmanek of Nucic, Checho-Slovakia on May 27, 1879. to this union six children were born. Mrs. Anita Lowman and Mrs. Mary Boyd of Seattle, Washington, Miss. Anna Svoboda of Norfolk, Joseph Svoboda of St. Paul, and two sons who preceeded him in death.

Mr. and Mrs. Svoboda lived for 9 years in the vacinity of their parents and then came to America in May of 1888 direct to Howard county, where they made their home on a farm northwest of St. Paul. Here they lived until the spring of 1915 at which time they moved to St. Paul, to the home he occupied until the time of his death.

When our friend came to this county, he came in his determined way to pioneer and live in the new country, by becoming a loyal and true citizen of this country, and took out his citizenship papers on May 24, 1895. Mr. Svoboda was a kindly disposed gentleman and many will remember him as a kind considerate father and husband, true and accommodating to his neighbors and friends.

Those remaining to mourn his death are his wife and children, Joseph Svoboda, St. Paul, Miss Anna Svoboda of Norfolk, Mrs. Anita Lowman and Mrs. Mary Boyd of Seattle, Wash., 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at the home of Joseph Svoboda on Sunday afternoon with Rev. W. J. Primrose in charge. Burial was made in Elmwood cemetery. Pallbearers were John Sazama, C. J. Humpal, Bedrick Lupinek, Joseph Kotik, James Shalda, and Edw. T. Bartle.

The Phonograph wishes to add its word of sympathy to the bereaved relatives in this hour of sorrow.
